The Gardiner Dairy Foundation is calling upon aspiring students from dairy communities to apply for 2018 Tertiary Scholarships.

Four scholarships, of $10,000 per annum for two years, will be provided to students commencing study at university or TAFE in 2018, in a field that will support the Victorian dairy industry and its communities in the future.

Rural students often experience increased barriers to tertiary education and the Gardiner Dairy Foundation aims to assist these students, and in turn drive dairy communities forward.

Gardiner Dairy Foundation Chairman, Dr Bruce Kefford, said that investing in emerging rural leaders will allow the Gardiner Dairy Foundation to support the long-term future of the dairy industry.

“We are pleased to be able to support young people from dairying communities by providing these Scholarships.

“The Tertiary Scholarships program plays a vital role in helping talented individuals have the opportunity to access tertiary education and this investment will enable a positive impact on dairy communities through the skills they gain,” said Dr Kefford.

Former recipient of the Tertiary Scholarships program, Matthew Roache from Woolsthorpe, Victoria is currently completing a Bachelor of Agriculture at Charles Sturt University.

“The Tertiary Scholarship that I have received has provided support and covered some of the costs associated with relocating from Victoria to Wagga Wagga.

“I would like to thank the Gardiner Dairy Foundation for this opportunity and encourage those commencing university or TAFE degrees in 2018 to apply for the program as it truly is a remarkable opportunity that will provide extensive benefits for years to come,” said Matthew Roache.

Eligible scholars must meet the below requirements:

  • Pursuing a career through their chosen course that will either directly benefit the dairy industry and/or benefit dairy communities
  • Commencing their first year of full-time tertiary study in 2018 (university or TAFE)
  • Required to move away from home to take up their chosen course
  • Must be an Australian citizen
